One and all, I am so thrilled that you liked the peony as much as I did, and thanks for telling me about the ants because I never saw any.

Just to let you know I have been enjoying your "Open Window" postings! But this one with the peonies.....peonies are my most favorite flower. Like you, I am amazed at their bloom cycle. I have to admit, I don't think I have ever seen such transformation in a peony flower, but will definitely watch and observe more closely.

I am jealous and would someday like to experience independence!!!

I just loved this posting Claudia. Thank you so much for showing this transformation I had never thought about before. Your flower is beautifully photographed.
My mother had peonies in her garden and as children we used to flick the blooms to send those poor ants flying. Never brought them indoors as also had to welcome the ants.

My grandmother grew them along our walkway as well. Every single year as a child growing up, I'd be enthralled with them, still am. They were rather wild, not pampered which to me, made them even more elegant. I noticed that black ants were always on the flowers when they were just starting out tightly wound in that ping pong ball state. Apparently the ants assisted in the petals opening. Amazing!
