Once again the village of Sag Harbor rallied around its youngsters for the Scouts Soap Box Derby. Last year was the first year this event had been resurrected and this year it looks and sounds like it will be an ongoing tradition. Some of the fathers could be overheard proposing a derby for "the older generation" next year - they want some of this good clean fun for themselves.

Throngs of residents, business people, visitors and other kids lined High Street to watch the competition. Some scouts barreled down the hill and others got a helpful push from a friendly onlooker.

Each one approached the race with determination, if not a smile, and the crowds cheered them all on.

The vehicles, for the most part, stood up against the challenges of the course, and one - very humorously - emitted soap bubbles all the way down.

A good time was had by one and all, and a special thanks goes out to everyone who participated in the organization and running of this memorable event.
As a photographic observer, I for one will look forward to this event with anticipation every June. In the meantime, this slide show is my homage to all who participated in this wonderful day.
