I love color, everything about it - its tonalities, tints and shades, its brilliance and subtlety, its opacity and translucence, .... It fascinates and delights me, especially the way light plays with it, changing it with no notice to something entirely unexpected and pleasing. So a Black & White Challenge is just that ... a challenge. My very literal mind has a hard time imagining an image in black and white, although many have often said I see the world that way. Well let's hope that that's all changing.
Years ago, Peter was trying to broaden my photographic eye and he suggested that I process some of my favorite images of some lovely pink peonies in to black & whites. Every fiber in my being railed against doing this because what is a flower but beautiful, abundant color, but he cajoled me into doing it and these are the results. I appreciate each these days, especially the contrasty nature of black and white images and, often, their ability to reveal texture which might otherwise blend into the tints and shades of color.
This was my submission for Day 4 of the Black & White Challenge.
