Wednesday evening was the "Opening Reception" for the "Women of the World Art & Photography Exhibition" sponsored by the Nassau County Comptroller. The reception not only was the kick-off for the month-long exhibition that will be at the Hutchins Gallery at C.W. Post College in Brookville NY during the month of March, but was also the kick-off for for Women's History Month in Nassau County. The reception was really well attended by art lovers as well as supporters for the 53 women who were exhibiting their art.
I learn something new everytime I enter one of these events and if there's one thing I learned this time it's that there is a huge effort required to put together one of these shows - shows that appear effortless to most attendees. Coordinating artists is not easy, convincing sponsors requires tact and subtle salesmanship, corralling politicos and their staff is a challenge on the best of days, and commanding the public to appear just doesn't happen because you want it to. I think everyone by all standards would consider Wednesday's night a success. All our thanks go to Jill Rader Levine who curated the event and my special thanks go to Flo Siemsen who introduced me to this remarkable group.
P.S. Flo's friends brought her flowers for the occasion, I held them while she was taking pictures ... what else!
