Early Morning

Early morning is my favorite time of day, and always has been. I love the quiet - the peacefulness after a night of slumber, before the day gets underway. While others still sleep, I get to watch the incredible light of dawn change, and if I'm up early enough (before true light) I even get to bask in the darkness photographers call blue hour.

I love this hour wherever I am, but I truly love it here where I live, not far from the ocean, in the middle of farm country. The fields of summer crops are just now being plowed under - getting ready for the winter to come, the beaches are empty and deep - not yet torn away with winter storms, and the sounds of morning song birds are being replaced with the honks of Canada geese heading south. Fall is definitely in the air and yet this morning is warm (65℉) and humid (75%) by northeastern standards and the breeze is out of the south. We're expecting rain but who cares, that will change soon enough ... so I enjoyed my coffee on the front stoop this morning gazing across at the recently plowed potato field and the farmhouse in the distance, being ever so thankful that I got to start my day this way.
